So I was looking through my Yankees cards and came across a 2009 Bowman Chrome Brian Baisley card and one of his in the 2010 set. Both say 1st Bowman Chrome card. Does Topps take us for Idiots?

I know they currently have a monopoly but come on. Hes not even a prospect anymore he was released by the Yankees in spring training. Topps should be ashamed of themselves.

Just opened 4 boxes of Jumbo should have pulled 12 Autos but instead I pulled 6 Autos & 3 Redemptions. Not to happy.... Need to write a nice letter to Topps.. Off to the Yankees game full review coming soon...

Upcoming Release: 2010 Bowman

The excitement builds as 2010 Bowman is scheduled to be released a week from today. This could be the most hyped Bowman product in years. The major draw is that this product contains Stephen Strasburg first MLB Auto. It also contain Autos from top prospects Dustin Ackley, Donavan Tate, and Phillippe Aumont. It also now has triple relic cards from the futures game that are #/99. I kind of find it strange after looking at the sell sheet that the Bowman Prospect cards won't come in gold & there won't be any Xfractors. Will you miss the Xfractors?

My plan is to at least get a Hobby & Jumbo Box of this. My major goal is to figure out how I can get my hands on entire case of Jumbo. Will see because its a little pricey at about $1000 for an 8 box case. I have read on some forums that Strats Auto may fall at 3 per Jumbo case so it would take to much to get your loot back.

Taking a Look at the Collection: Robinson Cano

One of the hottest players in Baseball right now is Robinson Cano. I currently have a really nice 145 card collection of him. I don't have any of his Autos but do hold 7 of his game used cards some of which I know Drew will be jealous of. I can't decide which of my cards are my favorite its a toss up with the 2007 Artifacts Jersey #/199 & 2009 Ticket to Stardom Dual Jersey Ticket card. Its looking right now that Cano can be an MVP & Gold Glove winner this year.

Review: Some of the art in this product is awesome and other cards are horrible. I think I did ok but not $176 worth. Nice box if your a Sandoval fan. There are way to many back variation for me I 'd rather the variation be on the front. I hate having to flip a card to find out if it different. I don't think I'll buy another box of this product I'm just looking forward to the Bowman release in a few weeks.

Investing in Cards: Ricky Romero

In high school I was very interested in the Stock Market I thought I wanted to be a stock broker. I was even in a club called the Stock Market and I won there yearly annual award twice. Everyone I spoke to told me not to go into that field so I didn't. Now I invest in the card market. I have had successes and some failures. My current investment is Ricky Romero who last week when I was watching his game against the White Sox he pitched a No-hitter into the 8th inning. So I searched Ebay for some of his cards. I bought 3 of his 2009 Topps Chrome Autos for $7.25 each. These cards look great as they are on card Autos. I thought this was pretty good deal. He currently has a 1-1 record and has looked extremely good in his starts. My investment goal is to sell them for over $20 each by seasons end. Do you think that's possible? Have you made a card investment before?

Taking a Look at the Collection: Andy Pettite

I want to start a new feature called Taking a Look at the Collection. I will pick a player and feature a card or two of theirs. I will try to do this at least once a week.

First up is Andy Pettitte he has been a favorite of mine for the last 15 years. Today Andy started the season opener at Yankees Stadium and pitched very well. The 37 year old 5 time world series champ threw 6 scoreless innings. Before last year everyone was saying he was finished but it looks like he still has a few good years left him. I have at least a hundred of his cards. One of my favorites is a 2005 Donruss Prime Patches I picked this up on Ebay a few years back for a couple bucks. It has a Bat, Home Jersey, Road Jersey & Glove its numbered to 150. I know he is featured in an Astros uniform but boy it is a nice card.

Topps just announced that Topps Finest Redemption #1 is Jason Heyward and that 10% of the cards made will be Autographed. Redemption #1 is now going for about $90 on Ebay. I think that might be a bit high for card that only has a 10% chance being an auto. Is he really the real thing?

My Trip to Arizona Wrap Up Part 1

I got back from my week long vacation yesterday. It sucks to be back but I did take an extra day off today to get back in the swing of things. I'm just going to take a jog and relax today my alarm will be going off at 4:30am tomorrow to head back to work.

As for the trip Spring Training wasn't exactly what I thought it was going to be. The last time I attended was back in 1995 and that was Florida I remember getting extremely close to the players and tons of players were signing. I went to the Astros camp and scored over 40 Autos. Well here is a little recap my trip.

On Thursday morning we headed over to Goodyear Ballpark to see the Rangers play the Reds. Neither team took batting practice which was a major disappointment. For the first hour I was there all I did was walk the park and watch some of the relievers have a catch with Saltalamacchia.

About 30 mins before game time the reds started coming out and kids started to swarm none of the big players were signing so I saw there weren't many people on the Rangers side so I headed over there. I only got 2 players Autos but they were 2 of the bigger ones Josh Hamilton & Michael Young. With the help of my Wife & Father I scored 4 Hamilton Autos & 3 of Youngs. Both players were extremely nice. I talk to Josh about the 2008 Home Run derby telling him I attended it and he said it was a lot of fun.

The seats were awesome 2 rows behind the Rangers dugout. Only disappointment was that there was netting over the dugout I guess safety trumps clear views.

I moved around the stadium and got some good shots spoke to some ushers who told me a lot of the Red regulars had already left town.

The Reds ended up winning the game with a walk off home run by minor leaguer Daniel Dorn.

Baseball Fever!!!

The Baseball season is just about upon us. I have recently caught the fever between watching 30 Teams in 30 Days on the MLB network to participating in 3 Fantasy Drafts in the last few weeks. I'm also extremely pumped for Phil Hughes being named the Yankees 5th starter he is finally going to get a chance. Last week to kick off my Baseball fever I purchased an 11 game pack of tickets to the Yanks. The first game is Monday May 3rd against the O's. Now for some even more exciting news. On Sunday morning I'm flying out to Vegas for 3 days then driving to Phoenix for 3 days. In addition to be happy that I'll be away from work for 10 days (I hope they don't call me to much). I will be attending 2 games the first is a Texas Rangers at Cincinnati Reds game on Thursday @ Goodyear Ballpark. I got the tickets off Stub Hub for dirt cheap ($8) only a few rows behind the first base dugout. The second game is at one my favorite ballparks Chase Field. On Friday night I will be attending the Chicago Cubs at Arizona Diamondbacks. Not sure where the seats are just yet a friend got them for me through a client for free. Last time they got me tickets for the D-back was back in 98 and they weren't to far behind the First base dugout so will see. I'm going to try to post some photos while I'm away. The day I come back is opening night Yankees vs Red Sox it don't get better then this. Hope everyone has a great week.

Recently I purchased 2 really nice Hughes cards off Ebay that I needed. The first card is a 2007 Bowman Black Printing Plate 1 of 1. This is me 3rd printing plate of Hughes I hope to pick up some more soon. My 2nd purchase 2008 UD Premier Quad Jersey/Auto Inscribed #05/10. This card is a beauty and one of my Top 10 cards in my Hughes collection. A third card added to my collection is via Chris over @ On Card Autos. Its a 2007 Elements rookie card #/550. Thanks Chris your card will be on its way very soon. Hughes is looking pretty good this Spring there is a very good chance that he'll be the 5th starter for the Yankees.

13 1/2 months and Chris Perez Shows up in my Mailbox

I bought a box 2008 Stadium Club when it first came out and pulled a Chris Perez redemption. I submitted for redemption on January 25th 2009 and it finally showed up today. They had asked me if I wanted a replacement for the card about 6 months ago and I said yes but they never sent a replacement I thought they forgot about me. But there in the mailbox it was. Its a really nice on card auto. He is currently a reliever in the Indians organization. I wonder what took so long to get this card produced?

Sent out a nice pack of Brewers cards to Ed over at Roll out the Barrel. In exchange ED sent me 2 beautiful 2010 Topps Patches. I really like the Tex one I have a lot of memories of the Inaugural season at the stadium. He also sent over a nice bright green Cano that was #'d.

I also added another bunch of Hughes cards this week. Chris over On Card Autos sent me a Cano/Hughes prospect card from topps total. I also picked up the other Hughes off EBAY. I got the Winfield from Anthony over at Mike Pelfrey Collectibles.Thanks to everyone who have helped me in recent weeks..

So now the redemption cards are going for about $1.50 a card on ebay. I like gambling so maybe I'll redeem my last 15 tomorrow or later if I can't hold out. Life Update + Trade with Bud @ First Day Issue

I must apologize for the delays between posting. Work & Wife have been very demanding lately. My wife thinks I need to cut back from spending all my free time reading/writing blogging & Ebaying so i will probably bring the post down to twice but will see when she starts coaches softball in the spring so she won't be home when I get home from work. I just need to make sure my cards are just neatly put away.

As for the trade I completed an amazing trade with Bud over at First Day Issue. He sent me some amazing Yankees cards in return I sent him Griffey cards he needed + huge load of M's cards. In return he sent me a nice lot of Auto, Bat & Jersey cards. My favorite of the group is the Roger Clemens Game Used Baseball with part of the WS logo. Also the Soriano Patch was pretty sweet I wish he was still with the Yankees playing a corner outfield position. Please check out Bud if you get a chance.

I recently purchased 2 boxes of your 2009 Signatures Stars product and I was extremely disappointed. I bought the boxes from http://www.atlantasportscards.com and paid $70 for a box of junk. The first problem is that the first box I opened contained 24 doubles I find that extremely ridiculous. Another problem with box 1 is that you box states that it contains 4 Signatures or Memorabilia cards per box. I only received 2. My other concern is that no where on your box does it state that it will contain Team USA cards. 4 of the 5 hits in box 2 were Team USA cards if I wanted Team USA cards I would have bought your Team USA product for that. I open a lot of your products and I'm usually very happy but this one is just ridiculous. I write a blog on my breaks you can check out the link will be below my signature. Please let me know what you can do to fix this problem for me.

Phil Hughes - Redemption & Ebay Pickups

This week I received in the mail 4 cards via purchases on Ebay & then 1 redemption showed up in my mail box I wasn't expecting to receive yet.

2007 Bowman Sterling & 2007 Bowman Chrome Refractor via lot on Ebay under $6 for both cards with shipping I thought was reasonable. Then I picked up 2009 Topps Heritage Chrome for 99 cents with free shipping I thought this was a killer deal.

My major addition of the week may make some other bloggers jealous. I obtained a 2007 Upper Deck Sweet Spot Dual Auto Glove of Hughes & Felix Hernandez #02/15. I have seen this on Ebay for crazy prices a guy wants $150 for this card so when I picked it up for $45 I was pretty happy. I'd consider this to be one of my top 5 cards of the collection.

Redemptions can sometimes be a great experience like this one was I only waited about 7 weeks to get this 2009 Topps Unique Solo Shot Auto. Its a beauty the only downfall is it shows Hughes in his 2008 jersey #34. He switched back to #65 after his horrible 2008 season.

The first card is former Yankees prospect Michel Hernandez Topps Pristine Uncirculated Refractor #/99. I think he currently plays in the Rays organization. Review: For not having an MLB license this is a great product much better then any other company without a license has put together. The photography on the base cards is excellent and there is a huge variety of players in this set. I would think you would need to buy 4-5 boxes to complete this set. I can't be 100% sure about this because the hot box shorted me about 40 base cards but it was worth pulling all those jerseys. The one thing that totally has me befuddled is the Portrait Torri Hunter #/99 when you look at the card its the same as the other I don't why they would number it as a parallel. Autos I pulled were a little weak but its low end product so its expected. Since I have bought these boxes the prices have dropped down $60 which is decent but I would say this is a great buy at $50 which should come pretty soon. Most of these cards are not for trade as I have posted them on Ebay.. (Sorry)

2010 Upper Deck HOT BOX BREAK JERSEYS GALORE - MUST SEE

Opened my 1st box of 2010 Upper Deck and every pack contained a game used jersey. Didn't get any Yankees but went 16 for 16 packs with Jersey. Did anyone else see a box like this? or boxes missing Jersey cards? Maybe Upper Deck read my letter and told my seller to send me a hot box.

Catching Up on Trades

So work has been extremely hectic lately. It really sucks sometimes being the boss it means your on call 24/7. Between that and the excitement of opening new products I haven't got to showing off some items I obtained in trades so here it goes.

Trader: The Collective Troll
The first of 3 packages I opened the other day was from The Collective Troll I sent him a bunch of Rays cards recently. In return he sent me some Yanks. A few of them that stuck out at me were Ross Ohlendorf Ginter this is an awsome card and Ross is one of the all-time great guys in Baseball. I'll have to tell you my story of meeting him in the future. There also was a nice bright Bowman Chrome Blue of of Burnett. A mini of Jeter with A&G back can't go wrong there. Also a card of 'Gator' Ron Guidry from 1980 I don't really have to many cards from before I was born so this is a great add. Thanks again Troll...

Trader: Thoughts and Sox
I sent Adam over at Thoughts for Sox a bunch of cards from the Yankees most hated rivals the Red Sox. He sent me great additions to my Yankees collection. Including Top prospect Dellin Betances. Also included a Topps 206 Mini Peidmont of all time great closer MO. A Die-cut Cano don't ya know you can't go wrong with that. Thanks Adam look forward to a good battle in the east this summer.

I exchanged some Twins cards with Rhubarb_Runner in return he sent me a variety pack. Included were some over sized Baseball Talk collection. Seen this before but never had them in my hand they look really cool. I might just have to find a player on ebay so I can listen to these beauties. Also included is a coin of the late great Bobby Mercer. He included cards from the 1970s all the way up to 2010 a 40 year range of cards amazing. One of my favorites is a 1971 Mel Stottlemyer it bring back memories of meeting him well he was the pitching coach of the Astros back in 95. He is one of my Moms favorite player after Thurman Munson. Review: I got confused for a second I thought I bought a box of USA baseball. 79% of a set in 1 box without dupes is pretty good.

Overall Review: This is an extremely disappointing product at $70 a box. I would have to say at $35 it would be a push. No where on the box did it state this box will contain a crap load of Team USA cards. If I wanted Team USA cards I would have bought that product. In addition out of the 11 USA Star Prospects pulled 3 were doubles. I was also shocked not to pull a single platinum variation I buy & usually like most Upper Deck product is a major bummer. I don't even really care that the card have no MLB Logo......

This card had evaded me in the past because it has sold for in the high 30's and was not willing to go that high. Ended up getting for $23 with shipping

I had bid on this card a bunch of times in the past with no success. This time I found a seller who had it listed with a best offer. I got him to go from $60 all the way to $30 pretty happy with that.

Hadn't seen this card listed before so I went for it and got it for $18.

Last but not least a ticket from Phil Hughes Major League Debut 4/26/2007. I have wanted this for awhile I attended the game after purchasing tickets off stub hub but they were paper tickets. I had always wanted a hard copy. I'm thinking of mailing it to him to have him sign it or try to meet up with him if he is back in AAA.

On Wednesday afternoon I was checking out A Cardboard Problem and came across Sooz blog about the Upper Deck products called Look Ma No Logos. I said the Ultimate Jeter looked pretty sweet so I bought 2 Boxes from Big T Sportscards for very reasonable $79 (The price has gone up $10 since I bought it). I ended up pulling the exact card Sooz had shown on her blog. I was like no way! That is my 3rd Jeter Auto in 4 1/2 months. I love the base cards I was disappointed I didn't pull any Yanks base cards but can't complain about the Jeter Auto. The price is a little steep for 4 cards but if you pull a Jeter, Griffey or Ripken its worth it. Sorry for the short review I'm kind of speechless. 2010 Topps: On Target?

So my plan was to get the 2500 or so 2009 cards I had away before the 2010 cards were released next week. But I was thrown for a loop. I started seeing people posting about Target carrying 2010 Topps early. I find this extremely absurd why release retail before Hobby. I feel that the hobby collectors are the main purchasers of their products so its only fair to let them get them first. The value of these cards will drop some what with Target releasing before hobby. Thanks Topps you really deserve sole licensing. NOT!

Well yesterday I worked a 15 hour day but I did take 30mins out of my day to go to Target and grab 20 packs. I remember when I was a kid growing up the end of November was my favorite time because that when next years release was coming out and you wanted to see next years design. So I had to get my hands on a few packs. They probably had 50 or so packs but they were hidden they were stacked on some short shelf out of there box.The game plan is still to open a box of Hobby and & Jumbo when they are released and compare the 2. Here is the review for the Target packs they sell for $1.99 for 12 cards.

BASE CARDS

First thing I notice about the base cards are that the logos are way to big they make the cards childish. The photography on these cards are hit or miss the Ohlendorf looks cool but the Johnson & Mauer don't look great from that angle if the photo was from different angle it would be much better who wants to see someones back? Franchise history is hit or miss I love the A's one the Yankees one not as much.

SP Variation

I may seem weird but I like variation they give the packs a little more added value. I will only collect the Yankee ones and sell off the rest to put towards more packs.

Peak Performance

In retail jersey cards come 1:145 packs so I think I did pretty well pulling 1 out of 20 packs. The only disappointment is I can't see Youks beautiful face. NOT! No its that the card is Kevin Youkilis probably my least favorite player in baseball. Off to Ebay it goes...

1951 Red Back

I like these but this would be a tough set to put together because I don't plan on buying to many more packs from Target and individually on ebay there gonna go for dollar or 2. I'll just get the Yankees.

Million Card Giveaway

I like that all these cards aren't the same with codes on the back. For now I plan on selling these to take advantage of the high resell. When I buy my few boxes I'll redeem a few and see how I do.

The Cards Your Mom Threw Out

I don't like these cards one bit because guess what my mom never threw out my cards. So I still have 4 of the 6 cards I pulled. 1 of the 6 had its original back. I wonder if this is more valuable? Did anyone throw out your Longoria from last years set?

Legendary Lineage

I really only like the ones where the players are from the same team. I do like the design also.

The Staples
(Turkey Red & Topps Gold)

The Turkey Red look great as usual. As for the Gold they are slowly losing something. I remember when they were first coming out they seemed to be embossed gold not just printed gold. Those were much better. But still I like both these inserts. Players pulled not so much on the Gold side.

Rest of the Junk

These inserts were just added junk they should have never made this product. Who cares about when they young what a bunch of crap.

Meeting Five Hall of Famers in 1 Day

When I was a teenager I attended the 1996 Baseball All-Star Fan Fest in Philadelphia. I had a blast there I said to myself I can't wait to attend another one I had to wait 14 years for that but it was worth the wait. On July 14th, 2008 I attended the 2008 All-Star Fan Fest @ the Jacob Javits Center in NYC. It was a rainy July day we arrived at the fest before the doors opened and as we walked in I was extremely disappointed the line was HUGE. I thought that this day was going to suck but what I didn't know was that day I was going to meet 4 Hall of Famers & a future Hall of Famer.

After waiting online for hours with my father and my future wife. I got to meet and get autographs from Goose Gossage, Rollie Fingers, Paul Molitor, Tony Gwynn & Andre Dawson. At this signing many people were asking Dawson about why he wasn't in the Hall of Fame. He seemed so pissed to be up there with other Hall of Famers. He graciously signed my ball and I wished him luck on being elected to the Hall of Fame. Of Hall of Famers Goose & Tony were extremely friendly. The 4 Hall of Famers all signed there induction years without even asking and MLB authenticated the ball for free. This is one of my most amazing baseball events I hope to share more with everyone in the future. Check out the photo of the balls below they look even better in person.

Price: $220 per Box (picked up @ the White Plains Show

Went to Atlantic City Friday & Saturday did ok playing Craps. Not as much as I would have liked. Today I went to work the alarm went off at 5am exciting. All morning I said if its slow I'm going to cut out and hit the card show because I wanted to pick up some pages & team bags. Well it was super slow so I jetted out around 1:30pm. Stopped at the show on my way home picked up the pages & team bags looked around didn't see to many great deals on singles. So I hit up every dealer that had Sterling for a price and there was 5 dealers that had the boxes the prices ranged from $220-$240. So I bought from the cheapest guy and boy did I buy the right box. I really didn't have the funds to buy this box but I did. I was really happy I bought the cards they look great. I also pulled 1 Killer hit & 2 decent hits to make this box a success. I would like to buy another box but I don't think I'd be able to come close to this box. I will be putting most of the hits on Ebay tonight but if you need any of the base cards or any of the following hits Martin, Ramirez, Gonzalez, Feng, Campbell, Storen, Singh & Schlereth let me know maybe we can work out a trade. So my plan was to sell off all my hits from my Tribute break and buy a box of Bowman Sterling box but the sale was a major disappointment. Total sale for all the hits minus the Bando that I'm hoping to have Topps replace was $78. I was a little shocked I was expecting it to bring in more like $150. The biggest shocker was that the Dawson Auto #/50 sold for under $14. So there goes the idea of buying sterling as the pay pal account is pretty low. The plan is to sell off a few more cards I have left over from other box breaks and buy 1 Jumbo & 1 Hobby 2010 Topps and do a comparison when they first hit shelves.

Picked up a few cards on Ebay this week 2 Yankees from Unique #/1199 and I added a 2008 Bowman Chrome Orange Refractor David Robertson #10/25 for under $9 with shipping I had been searching for this card for sometime so this was pretty exciting to get into my hands.

I also completed a nice trade with It's Like Having My Own Card Shop I sent them over a 2 Brandon Webb #/d cards in exchange they sent me 2005 Topps Retired Signatures Roy White. Its really nice card so thanks again.

This maybe my only post of the weekend as I head this afternoon to Atlantic City to do some gambling. If I win big I may buy a box of Sterling so lets hope.

I recently sent Chris over @ On Card Autos a bunch of Cubs cards. In return he sent me over 100 Yankees cards Whoo Hooo. Included were 3 Jersey cards & 1 Bat card. The one that really stuck out at me was 2001 Fleer El Duque Bat card. Its a nice design but I don't think this bat ever hit a ball in 2000 when I would think this bat is from he was 0 for 9. Bat cards of pitchers are really strange to me but its a Yankee card I needed so I love it.

Some of the base cards I enjoyed were the 2009 Topps Black Wal-Mart version cards. I didn't pickup many of these since I can't stand Wal-Mart and all the trashy people that shop there & work there. So they were a nice addition to the collection. Also included were 2 1984 Topps cards I don't really have many Yankee cards before I started collecting as a kid in 1986. Also check out the Bubba Crosby card he signing balls for 2 little girls I wonder if those girl even know there on that card.

The Day I Met Mr. Steroid

So today Mark David McGwire finally admitted what the world has known for many years. I have to say when I was growing up I loved the Yankees but in the late 80's & early 90's the other team I followed was Oakland A's. The reason for this was because they had the Bash Brothers. Who doesn't love the Home Run. Once Canseco left in 1992 they weren't the same so I never really overly followed them again. My favorite card of McGwire's is the 1991 Fleer Insert Pro Vision. It just looks so patriotic. Its a shame he had to use steroids but boy were those 1998 & 1999 seasons exciting. On August 9, 2001 I traveled up to Montreal on a family trip to see the Expos play the Cardinals. As I have done at many other stadiums across this great country I waited by the dugout for Autographs and out pops McGwire everyone is screaming and getting excited he comes over starts signing in my area. When he get to me I hand a OML Baseball and try to hand him a ball point pen. I asked him to sign the Sweet Spot. Instead he signs the side the ball with a sharpie. 9 years later its extremely faded and after looking at Autos people paid for my freebee doesn't look so great. He just shorthanded the Auto because I wasn't a paying customer. Is this right? It put a sour taste in my mouth so I kind of lost interest in him. It still sits in my collection. Just another story to tell my kids one day that I met Mr. Steroid. I wish him luck in his new endeavors.

Over the last few days I added some nice cards to my Phil Hughes collection. I also added a really nice Jason Giambi 2003 Authentix game used bat card. The only thing that could be better with this card is if the ticket was real and not a replica. Another funny thing I tried looking up the game listed on the ticket and the funny thing is the Yankees were off that day. I guess I'll have to live with it.

About every other month JP Sports holds a card show at my county center which is like 20 minutes away from my house so I attend about 5 of the 6 shows a year. This card show has so many dealers and there are so many great deals here. I usually pick up a box of bowman chrome dirt cheap or a box of latest release. Also on occasions like the shows because they have free signings. I currently have plans to be in Atlantic City playing Craps during this weekend so it looks like I'm going to be missing this show. But if your in the area you should attend you wont be disappointed. Last year I went to one and got Denny McLain's Auto for free and he put some nice inscriptions on it. I'm not to upset missing this show as I already have most of the players attendings autos.

I recently sent Dan over @ Saints of the Cheap Seats a bunch of Indians cards & some Allen & Ginter Minis he needed. He shot me over some Yankees cards that I needed. The first card that struck me was a 2008 Ginter Mini of Melky Cabrera. The Melk Man was one of my Wife's favorite players due to his clutch performances and his catchy nickname "The Melk Man Delivers". He also hit for the cycle this season which is a tough accomplishment. We were very sad to see him traded to the Braves in December but that's what happens in baseball. There also was a beautiful Gold Label of Nick Johnson who just resigned with the Yanks. The thing I love about this card is the design & quality/thickness of it I need to look into getting more of these. If you haven't checked out Saints of the Cheap Seats please do.

Stopped by Target today was searching around the card section and there wasn't much there. Behind a few boxes I found 2008 Stadium Club blaster boxes 1/2 off. The box was 8 packs with 5 cards per pack for only $9.99. I thought this was a good deal and after seeing everyone's success with retail I bought the only 2 boxes. I loved these cards last year when I opened a hobby box the imagery is amazing. The first box I pulled a very nice 1st Day Issue Evan Longoria Rookie card. In the final pack of the first box I pulled a beautiful Elliot Johnson on card auto of him bowling over Yankee Francisco Cervelli. The funny thing with this card is I have seen it featured on 2 other blogs recently and I really wanted it I even placed an offer on one on EBAY. I pulled a few Yankees cards I needed so this was a great deal for less then $20.

Christmas Disappoinment! Not Really

When I was growing up every year in my stocking I'd find about 5 packs of Baseball cards and boy was I excited. About 4 years ago this stopped it was very disappointing. So this year I took it upon myself I purchased myself 2 boxes of 2009 Bowman Draft to be disappointed as Yankee fan. Now your thinking how can any Yankee fan be disappointed your team just won the World Series. Well as I ripped these boxes I noticed something that was missing and it was that interlocking NY. I'm very disappointed in Topps they didn't include a single Yankee in this set (Jeter & Bernie are in WBC Uniforms). The Yankees signed 29 of the players the drafted in this years draft they couldn't include one? They should know Yankees are the most collected team. I guess to steer away from utter disaster I pulled a Aflac Auto of Donovan Tate so I can't be to disappointed. You can check out my full review of the 2009 Bowman Draft Break @ On Card Autos as for Christmas presents that wasn't a disaster also my parents are paying for plane tickets for me and my wife to fly out Vegas for 3 Days and then head over to Arizona to take in some spring training games at the end of March.

Trade with Play at the Plate

A few weeks I sent Play at the Plate an email that I had a bunch of Rangers cards I was looking to unload. He said he was interested in them so I sent him the cards. On Christmas Eve I received a package back from Play at the Plate and boy was I amazed. The card I was the most excited about may shock you it was a 1996 Leaf Signature Extended Autographs #140 Jeff Nelson. I never really new this card existed I always wanted a Auto from the 1996 Leaf set and always went after the Andy Pettite which was way out of my price range. Jeff played a major part in the Yankees winning 4 world series titles in 5 years. I was lucky enough to meet Nelson at the 2008 All-Star Fan Fest and got him to sign a ball. Also included in the pack was Phil Hughes jersey card #/75 that I needed & many more amazing cards. If you haven't already checked out Play at the Plate please do.

Taste the Rainbow

So I put my first Bowman Chrome rainbow together a few months ago. I was extremely excited it was Mike Dunn at the time a Top Prospect in the Yankees farm system with trade a Phil Coke a few weeks ago he was supposed to be in the big league pen. But yesterday he was traded to the Braves for Javier Vazquez. I met Mike Dun during the 2008 season @ Trenton and he seemed like a nice guy and looked like a good pitcher in the minors. I guess I'll have to try my next rainbow with Yankee Prospect Justin Snyder I'm just missing the Refractor & Red refractor for it. Don't you just hate when a player you built a great collection of gets traded. I don't know what I would do if Phil Hughes got traded .

About 2 weeks ago I sent Sooz an email that I had 2 Kevin Kouzmanoff Autos sitting in my collection 2007 Exquisite Rookie Sigs Imagery Autos Gold #KK2 #07/10 & 2007 Exquisite Rookie Heroes Auto Gold #KK1 #05/15. I picked up these 2 cards in a lot of 20 Autos about 1 1/2 years ago. I had considered putting them up on Ebay but found they had little value. So I was extremely happy when I found a great home for them. So I sent those over to Sooz and in return she sent me a list of Phil Hughes card that she had. Pulled the case hit out of 1 of my 3 boxes of Goudey I bought. Prior to puling this card I didn't own anything older then a late 50's Yankee card so to pull a card from 1933 was very exciting. I could tell the card wasn't in great shape but not horrible and never had a card graded before so when I went to the card show in August I had it graded by PSA and it came in at a PSA 4 I was pretty satisfied.

This was a nice pick up because I'm big fan of Venditte he is a switch pitcher and plays for my favorite team the Yanks. When I was opening these boxes this was one of the cards I was looking forward to pulling and that's how it came in at #19. It is currently in my personal collection.

Nice very low numbered letter patch at this point in the season he was expected to have a big year but fizzled out. Auto could be cleaner looks like scribble to me. But after all my breaks this ranks as my 20th best pull of 2009.

Taking a look back at the year that was 2009. When 2009 Topps heritage came out in early March I purchased 2 Hobby boxes after 3 weeks they never showed up. So I contacted Ebay and they gave me a full refund. With that money I ended up buying 5 retail boxes 2009 Heritage. Then when I got the boxes the 3rd box I opened 3 packs in I realized 7 of the 8 cards matched from all 3 packs. So I investigated and found out that those 7 cards were the Super short prints. I continued to open 4 more packs with exact same luck. The only pack in the box that didn't contain these cards were the bonus pack. I could not believe my luck. I ended up pulling 49 of the Super SPs. I was shaking with excitement and told my wife if I broke $4,000 selling these cards I'd buy her something nice. I ended up having sold 48 of them Ebay for over $4,800. With that money I bought my wife diamond earrings & have purchased over 60 boxes baseball cards in the last 9 months and it has been a fun run. I had some great pulls and some real crappy ones. Before this year I never purchased more then 15 boxes so these 49 cards have helped me quadruple my baseball card habit. Over the next few days I'll be taking a look at my pulls of 2009. I have also put a good chunk of this money into my Phil Hughes collection. Imagine what I would have got if those first 2 boxes of Heritage showed up on my door step. I guess it must have been karma!

EBAY: BUY, PAY, WAIT WAIT WAIT......PLAYER GETS TRADED!

So on November 30th I purchased 2 Phil Coke cards in a lot on EBAY. The lot included a 2009 Sweet Spot Auto #/699 & Ticket to Stardom Rookie Blue Parallel #/99. I won the auction at a very reasonable price of $1.28 and shipping was decent at $2.95. I won the cards on Nov 30th Paid for the cards minutes after the auction ended. Here is where the disappointment comes from the seller who doesn't ship the item till December 12th it doesn't arrive till the 15th. Should I leave neutral or negative feedback for this seller? He never contacted me to let me know that there was going to be a delay. He also states in his auction that item will usually ship within 2 business days of receiving cleared payment. My payment cleared the same day his auction closed. I sell a good amount on Ebay and work about 55 hours at my real job and still find time to get all my packages to my buyers in a fast time period. To make matters worse during that time period Coke was traded to the Tigers. He was great out of the Yanks bullpen last year and I will miss him. Done complaining for this moment....

Collecting a Player: Phil Hughes

Over the years I have collected a few different players more heavily then others. When I was growing up it started with Willie Randolph then moved onto Don Mattingly as these players retired I started to focus on Derek Jeter but by the early 2000's I was priced out buying scarce Jeter cards. When I went away to college I left the hobby for 2 years. When I returned in 2005 I started to think let me start with a minor league Yankee who's cards were of reasonable price. That ended up being Brent Cox. He missed the whole 2007 season with injuries and has been side tracked ever since with 2007 Bowman signs of the future being his last card.

At the end of the 2006 season I started following a player by the name of Phil Hughes at this time he was one of the games top prospects and his cards were through the roof. So I had a few cards of his base cards. In 2007 the Yankees had some injuries with there pitching staff and called upon Hughes to pitch April 26th. Once I heard he was going to pitch that game I said I had to be there so me & my friend Mike got tickets on Stub Hub and saw his debut from the upper deck. He didn't pitch overly spectacular but I knew I need to follow this player. His cards have taken a dip in price and I have taken full advantage. I currently have 165 of his cards and counting everyday some of them as low as 1 of 1. You will be seeing a lot of Phil Hughes cards right here on my blog so stay tuned.

Game Used Reegie Corona Spikes

Since most of you readers don't know me I'm a huge Yankee fan I follow them from the minors to the majors. So that leads me to this a few weeks ago I was surfing EBAY and came across some game used items from AA affiliate of New York Yankees the Trenton Thunder. There were plenty of item from game used Hats, Balls, Bats, Ect. Most of the item were autographed and the proceeds were going to a good cause domestic violence. But I didn't want to own an item that was autographed so I found these Game Used Reegie Corona Spikes that were unsigned so I bid on them and with a $40 bid I won. My goal this summer is to get them signed myself. Corona ended up playing most of last year with the Scranton Yankees. He will either be there again this year or be the back up infielder in New York. I met Corona once in the 2007 season after a playoff game an he signed some cards for me. Currently Corona only has 2 major card releases 2007 Bowman Chrome & Bowman Heritage. I pretty much have his attainable cards I'm still on the lookout for the Gold & Orange Refractors.
